A High School Government and Leadership Honor Society
Pi Gamma Sigma is the only honor society that recognizes excellence in the field of government and leadership for high school students. Any accredited public or private high school can apply to start a local chapter.
How to start a Chapter:
Starting a chapter is easy, any teacher or administrator interested in starting a chapter must contact NSC about chartering a chapter. Potential Chapters must complete the attached application as well as have a minimum of one advisor/sponsor and two eligible students.
Approving Student Members:
The student body must be made aware of the requirements for membership, the process for being selected, as well as all deadlines. The method of selection of eligible students and their election to the organization shall be determined by the faculty advisor, the faculty selection committee, and the chapter’s high school administration. The candidates must meet the GPA, and participation requirements, but all other methods of selecting candidates shall be left up to the individual chapters.
Minimum Requirements for Membership:
Below are the minimum requirements students must meet to be eligible to join Pi Gamma Sigma. Individual chapters may choose to increase the requirements for their specific chapter but may not decrease any of the following. Students MUST maintain the below requirements to stay members in good standing.
GPA:
- 4 Semesters of Social Studies with a 3.0 GPA or better.
- 1 Semester of civics, government or leadership classes with a 3.0 GPA or better.
- Overall GPA of 3.0 or better.
School Participation:
- Students must have previously spent 1 years of high school as an active member in Student Government, Model Congress or Model UN organizations.
- Individual chapters may choose to add membership requirements such as point totals, competition attendance, etc.

Renewal:
Each year chapters must report the contact information of their advisor and how many members they have and any events they have held/run. Failure to report for two years in a row can lead to a chapter losing its chartering.
Graduation Cords and Honors:
Members wear Purple and White honor cords.
